The five status bars
The bottom left of the screen holds five bars: Health, Hunger, Thirst, Fatigue and Stamina. In the footage they start close to full and drift apart as the night goes on.
Hunger and thirst go down over time. Eat a portion of food or drink from a bottle (hold F) to refill them; each sip in the MBT video was 0.5 L. Fatigue climbs as the day goes on, and you sleep in the bed, couch or mattress you chose on Night 0. Stamina is used for running, and the Infinite Stamina pass removes that drain.
In the MBT run health read 67 and later 42, so the bar does move during the first day. Bandages turn up in the apartments.
At the front door
Facing the front door gives you three actions: unlock (F), the peephole (R) and the hook chain (T). In the footage the door still reads locked until you unlock it, so on the first night you check the peephole, unlock, open the entrance for Daniel and close it behind him.
The game's own pitch is to stay quiet while zombies fill the hallways, and Daniel's advice on the first night is the same, so use the peephole and the chain before you open up to anyone.
The survival book
Press B to open a red book. Its first page is titled Survival Rules and the next page continues the list. Entries visible on screen include: store water before the taps stop, count tomorrow's food before eating extra today, listen before opening a door, noise travels, and return before exhaustion turns a manageable encounter into a disaster.
A line at the bottom of the second page says rules you learn the hard way will be written there. The first rule matches the first tutorial task, filling the bucket in the bathtub.
Control tips
- Hold F, don't tap it, to eat or drink.
- Check the peephole (R) before every unlock; the game's objective on Night 0 asks for exactly that.
- Tab hides the objectives list if it blocks your view; press it again to bring it back.
- You only have four slots, so drop (X) what you don't need and put away (Q) what you're holding.
- H only works if you own the Shove pass, and it won't work in cutscenes, conversations, seated or lying down.

How do you hook the door chain?
Press T at the front door to hook or unhook the chain.
What does Tab do?
It hides or shows the objectives list.
Which key shoves?
H, or D-pad left or the SHOVE button on controller and mobile, but only if you own the Shove game pass.

Four in the numbered slots at the bottom right, at least in the footage we checked.
