Step 1 · Night 0 · 19:15
Look around the apartment
On screen: Look around the apartment
- It's "the last normal evening". Walk through the rooms; the TV is on in the living room.
- A breaking-news cut-in reports a disturbance downtown and tells residents to stay indoors. At 19:30 the TV says Signal lost.
Step 2 · Night 0 · 20:00
Store water while the taps still run
On screen: Store the filled bucket on the metal water rack
- Pick up the Cleaning Bucket under the kitchen sink.
- Put it inside the bathtub and turn on the tap.
- When it says Full, turn the tap off, pick the bucket up and carry it to the metal water rack in the living room.
In a 4-player run from STVELAW, the group filled extra pots and buckets the same way.
Step 3 · Night 0 · 20:10
Gather the apartment's food
On screen: Gather the apartment's food — Pantry: 0 / 19 portions
- Open the fridge, cupboards and the shopping bag and carry every food item to the pantry shelves.
- The counter at the top right shows how many portions are stored (19 in MBT's apartment).
- Tinned food needs a can opener before you can eat it.
Step 4 · Night 0 · 21:30
Lock up for the night
On screen: Lock up for the night
- Lock the entrance.
- Check the peephole (R).
- Choose a sleeping place: bed, couch or mattress.
Step 5 · Night 0 · 21:30
Answer the door and let Daniel in
On screen: Let Daniel in
- Someone knocks and a timer shows how long they will wait (62 seconds when it appeared in the video).
- Check the peephole, unlock (F) and open the entrance, then close it behind him.
Daniel's advice once he's inside: "Keep the noise down and they stay put."
Step 6 · Day 1 · 08:55
Plan today's rations
On screen: Plan today's rations
- Open the guide → Rations to see how long your food and water will last.
- Drink from the Sealed 2 L Bottle (hold F). The game shows how much you drank: 0.5 L per sip in the video.
- You can talk to Ruth Okafor in the building (press E).

Survival tips
- Stay quiet. The game's own pitch is "stay quiet as zombies fill the hallways", and Daniel says the same on the first night.
- Store water early. It's the first job the tutorial gives you, and STVELAW's group was already hunting for more bottles and buckets a few days in.
- Lock the door, hook the chain and check the peephole before you open it to anyone.
- Keep tinned food and a can opener together, or the food is useless.
- Neighbors trade. In STVELAW's co-op run the group gave a neighbor food and got a radio in return.
