| Stopped by | Flashlight stun, campfires, and sunrise (BlueStacks guide) |
When the Owl wakes up
On some nights a short scene plays of the Owl swooping a wolf, then the text “The Owl has woken up” appears. The night it wakes is random. You can also tell by the wind blowing at nightfall.
While the Owl is active the Deer does not spawn, except during a Cultist raid. Miraheze lists Forest and Snow Biome nights as where it appears.
The stand-still rule
Sometimes the Owl lands near a player and stands still. An eye icon appears over it. It turns red while you move and slowly goes white while you stand still.
If the eyes never turn fully red, the Owl flies away for a while. If they do, it chases you like the Deer and can be stunned by a flashlight.
It may spawn wolves nearby to scare you into moving. Swinging a weapon or interacting does not alert it, so you can kill the wolves without moving your feet.
How to get Owl Feathers
A feather drops (0 to 1) only when the Owl leaves without seeing you move. Stand still when it lands, kill any wolves without walking, and repeat. It is not guaranteed, so expect several encounters (BlueStacks guide).
Good to know
- It is the only animal reported to scare the Deer (Miraheze wiki).
- Players report it stops showing up after Day 99; the wiki guesses it is because the Deer gets hungry more often.
- The wiki lists a glitch where the Owl spawns before its wake-up scene, so there is no warning.
How to survive the Owl
- Stop moving the moment it lands. Don't sprint, don't jump.
- Kill wolves it spawns while standing still instead of running.
- If the eyes go fully red, use a flashlight to stun it and head for the campfire.
- Don't try to outrun it: it is faster than the Deer. Light and campfires are your safety net.
- If you aren't after feathers, the Miraheze wiki suggests running around the Owl rather than waiting for it.
